KOTA KINABALU: Sutera Harbour Resort and Borneo Marine Research Institute, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) signed a co-sponsorship agreement with the Jebsen & Jessen (SEA) to pave way for a marine conservation and citizen science project, during the International Conference on Marine Science & Aquaculture 2018 held at The Magellan Sutera Resort on Wednesday.
UMS’ Borneo Marine Research Institute and Sutera Harbour Resort jointly presented a video entitled ‘Sustaining Kota Kinabalu’s Marine Heritage’ during the launch, to give the audience a glimpse of what the project is all about.
Sutera Harbour Resort’s Group Chief Operating Officer Kenneth Goi Kok Ming said in his speech that this project will be a ‘legacy project’ resulting in valuable database for both the public and private sectors, and for all stakeholders, to appreciate and work together, to protect our marine heritage.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by Associate Prof Dr Ramzah Dambul, representing Minister of Science, Technology & Innovation Datuk Seri Panglima Wilfred Tangau, UMS’ Vice Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr D. Kamarudin D. Mudin, Vice Chairman of GSH Corporation Francis Lee, Choon Hui and Chairman of ICOMSA 2018 Assoc. Prof. Dr. Julian Ransangan.
The project will commence this year to coincide with the 3rd International Year of the Reef (IYOR) 2018.
The two-day event will witness distinguish speakers presenting papers to discuss the issues, priorities and strategies on ocean governance.
